Cantina Don Rafael

Cantina Don Rafael is one of the most established Mexican restaurants on the beachfront in Puerto del Carmen.

The mixture of Mexican dishes such as tacos, enchiladas or burritos, with grilled dishes and other typical Tex-Mex dishes make the restaurant a popular meeting place for holidaymakers and locals alike. The best quality has been served here for many years.

Especially in the evening hours, the Cantina Don Rafael is usually very busy. The extraordinarily colorfully decorated restaurant is an eye-catcher and has absolutely no “canteen flair”. Added to this is the great location directly opposite the main beach of Puerto del Carmen, Playa Grande.

During the day you can get different snacks and small meals here for a quick break from the beach. Many visitors use the short walk from the beach to the restaurant to have a gastro siesta there. At lunchtime, guests have a special menu that includes sandwiches, wraps and hamburgers.

The range of dishes is very extensive and also offers something for those who are not into Mexican cuisine. There are many grilled meat dishes, some selected fish dishes as well as pizza, paella or pasta, not only for small guests.

Among the appetizers, we recommend the sumptuous salads, the gazpacho or the quesadillas. When it comes to main dishes, you are spoiled for choice at Cantina Don Rafael.

Those who love typical Mexican classics such as tacos, enchiladas, burritos, fajitas or chimichangas will find many variations with chicken, beef or shrimp. My favorite are the combo plates, which combine several Mexican specialties.

Great grill dishes available

Since the grill restaurant Don Rafaelo is directly connected to the cantina, you can also get excellent meat dishes straight from the grill. It doesn’t matter whether it’s a 700g young bull steak or an entrecote from Uruguay beef, all grilled dishes are prepared exactly the way you prefer. Vegetarians will also find different options on the menu.

For us it is one of our regulars in Puerto del Carmen for many years. Since the Corona Pandemic you find also a nice outdoor terrace with six tables.
