Once you enter the Museum Lagomar you feel like you are entering a different world. The harmonic integration of this magical place into nature, the great gastronomic offer and the special atmosphere let you forget time and place and invite to stay a little longer. A legend tells that this little paradise once belonged to the famous actor Omar Sharif (Egypt, 1932), who’s name is always present in a play of words Lago (lake) and mar (sea). It says that he bought the place during the filming of “The mysterious island” and that he lost it shortly after in a game of Bridge. In the end it doesn’t matter who lived here because fact is that today Lagomar is similar to the works of César Manrique, making it one of the most visited places on the island. The old quarry with its small labyrinth of caves was renovated with loving care and attention to detail by the current owners, the architects Dominik Von Boettinger and Beatriz van Hoff. Inside Lagomar you find a museum which tells the story of this special place, many pieces of art from local artists, a high class restaurant and the famous cave La Cueva with its bar that is a very popular place during the weekends for going out and dancing to good music. The natural ambience, masterly created by artist Jesús Soto, can be enjoyed today due to the thoughtful renovations. It doesn’t matter if you sit in the oasis and enjoy the garden, if you walk through the spectacular labyrinth or if you view it from the restaurant, Lagomar will always surprise and impress you. A visit is recommended during daytime as well as by night, when the fine lighting bathes the whole museum in spectacular colours. |
